Roland de Wolfe: From Poker Writing to Poker Playing

Some professional poker players get inspired to write books and articles about poker after having a vast experience in playing poker. In the case of Roland de Wolfe, it is the other way around. He was first a writer of poker articles before he became a professional poker player himself.

Born in London, England in 1979, Roland de Wolfe is probably recognized by some poker fans as a writer and editor of the periodical "Inside Edge." But when he discovered his skills in playing poker, Roland de Wolfe decided to leave his career in writing. And so far, it seems that this professional poker player has no intention of going back to his first profession.

Roland de Wolfe decided to apply at poker tables everything he wrote about such casino game. The first time he experienced success was when he joined an event conducted by the World Poker Tour in Paris, France in 2005. This was the first time this professional poker player showcased his aggressive style of playing, which defeated professional poker player Juha Helppi. His victory allowed him to take home more than US$2,683,469. In spite of such big amount, Roland de Wolfe has stayed as humble as before.

In the same year, Roland de Wolfe made a money finish in the US$1,000 No Limit Hold'em event held by the World Series of Poker. Still in the same year, he also cashed in the US$15,000 Main Event of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic event of the World Poker Tour. It was also in 2005 when this professional poker player won first place in the Gutshot Poker Festival in Clerkenwell Road, London, England.

Roland de Wolfe is one of the youngest professional poker players in the world. Despite his young age, he can already tell to himself that he is satisfied with the current state of his life. Aside from the fact that this professional poker player gets to earn much while he does the thing he loves most, another perk of being a professional poker player is the fact that he remains to be his own boss.

It is a fact that Roland de Wolfe does not win first place all the time. Nevertheless, he is most of the time left at the final table with other professional poker players. Just like in April 2006 when he became one of the six hundred five players who joined the US$25,000 Championship event of the World Poker Tour at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada. This professional poker player did not win first place but it seemed like he did because his take-home cash prize totaled to US$1,000,000. He only ended third place in the said event.

When this professional poker player won in the European Poker Tour that was held in Dublin, Ireland in October 2006, he took home the first prize worth €554,300. Such victory made him the first professional poker player to win in both the World Poker Tour and the European Poker Tour.
